There are certain things South Africans like and in this list, I am going to show you what they are.
1. The Braai.
South Africans like to have a braai or BBQ as it is known in other countries around the world. It is a time for friends and family to relax. Men grab a beer and stand by the fire talking and making jokes and generally having a good time.
Inside the wives are making a salad, making sure enough beer is in the fridge, making sure the kids stay away from the fire and must make sure the meat is ready to cook when the men call for it.
Generally, a braai involves a lot more work for the wives than it does for the men.
All the glory goes to the men though. 😃
A South African gentlemen likes to have a beer at the end of the day. It signals to the rest of the family that it is time to relax. He will put his favourite tv program on, or he will stand and stare at the fire, watching the coals burn.
Beer will always be consumed when watching a rugby match. Wives should not ask any questions but just agree with everything the husband says, he knows much more than the referee and is a qualified touch judge too, he just needs to certificates to prove it.
Biltong is eaten while watching rugby, it is placed in a wooden bowl next to the man, so he will have easy reach to it whenever hunger strikes. He will even make his own biltong or will live in the vicinity of a biltong shop. A South African man is very good at finding a biltong shop when he moves to a new town.
Brandy is the chosen choice of drink for a sophisticated Rugby watching South African Gentleman. He will make sure he has a full bottle of KWV 750ml primed on the counter before any friends come or any rugby games start.
The bottle will be opened and the cap is thrown away. At this point, you will know it is game on. You will have to defend your glass and forget about your liver. The bottle will have to be finished before you will think of leaving. Leaving beforehand is just bad manners and if you do, you will not be invited again.
Following this points will ensure you have a South African man as a friend for a long time.
